Quick answer
In a hub-and-spoke laundry franchise, the store partner runs a compact collection store for intake, hand-over and local orders, while one central plant does all the cleaning. At Swan Clean, garments move from each store to our plant in Sector 82, Mohali, so a partner does not buy washers, dry cleaning machines, boilers or chemicals for the shop.
Key takeaways
- The store is the spoke: intake, garment checks at the counter, hand-over and local doorstep orders.
- The plant is the hub: inspection, stain care, cleaning, finishing and packing on European-engineered equipment.
- One central plant can serve 20 or more collection stores.
- Partners get the Swan brand, app and WhatsApp ordering, CRM, marketing support, training and quarterly reviews.
What does hub and spoke mean in laundry?
Most laundry businesses put the machines where the customer is. Every shop has its own washers, dryers, a boiler for steam and a dry cleaning machine, plus the people to run them. In a hub-and-spoke model the cleaning is concentrated in one well-equipped plant (the hub) and the shops (the spokes) focus on customers.
At Swan Clean, the hub is our plant in Sector 82, Industrial Area, Mohali. Our stores in Sector 35-C and Sector 37 in Chandigarh, Sector 11 in Panchkula and Homeland Heights in Sector 70, Mohali are the spokes.
What happens in a Swan store every day?
- Intake. Customers drop garments at the counter, or orders arrive from doorstep collections in the area. Each item is counted and tagged against the order.
- First check. Visible stains and existing damage are noted so the customer knows what to expect.
- Plant run. Garments travel to the central plant and come back finished.
- Hand-over. Customers collect at the store or receive delivery at home, with order updates in the Swan app.
The store team is counter and delivery staff. Nobody in the shop needs to operate industrial machinery.
What happens at the central plant?
Every order goes through the same ten-step process: inspection, tagging, sorting, spotting (stain care), cleaning, temperature treatment and sanitising, steam pressing, final check, packing and dispatch. Stain care uses Seitz and Diversey professional chemistry, finishing is done on Veit, Macpi and Naomoto form finishers, and dry cleaning uses Green Earth Cleaning. Because one team runs one plant, a garment dropped at any Swan store gets the same standard.
Why the model keeps a store lean
Taking the plant out of the shop changes what a partner has to set up and manage:
- No washers, dryers, dry cleaning machines or boiler to buy and maintain.
- No solvents or chemicals stored on site.
- A compact front store is enough, without the water lines, drainage and heavy power load that machines need.
- Hiring is simpler: counter and delivery roles, trained by Swan before opening.
The full investment, store format and expected returns depend on the city and location, so our franchise team shares those numbers after a first call.
What support does a Swan partner get?
- The Swan Clean brand, already visible across Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula, with business accounts that include the Indian School of Business, IHCL and Ramada properties.
- The Swan app and WhatsApp ordering, with real-time order updates for customers.
- The Swan CRM, which tracks website and ad enquiries with instant alerts.
- Launch and ongoing marketing support for the store’s catchment.
- Training on intake, garment checks, customer service and the store software, and quarterly business reviews after opening.
